Overview

Passing the Baton: Planning for Pastoral Transition
by Terry Roberts

When pastors and churches intentionally confront the "elephant" of pastoral transition, not only do they avoid needless pitfalls, they reap a number of benefits:
  • They ensure the continuity of vision
  • They uncork the creative potential of younger leaders
  • They stabilize the congregation, lessening the upheavel of major change
  • They bridge the generation gap
  • They open another chapter of meaningful ministry to the veteran leader
Passing the Baton explores these and other benefits of transition planning, discusses the "nuts and bolts" of a good plan, and tells the actual stories of several successful transitions.
